Do You Have Me In Your Heart?

“Hyung, what’s that?” Kangin asked.
”What’s what?” Leeteuk replied, wondering what was on his dongsaeng’s mind.
“That. The picture in your wallet!” Kangin snatched the wallet from Leeteuk’s hands and opened it. “Hyung…what’s…what’s this?” He was jabbing the photograph of Leeteuk and a lady, kissing.
“Kangin, I was going to break the news to all of you when we meet up this Saturday, but --,” Leeteuk replied, but he was interrupted.
“News? What news! Leeteuk, who is this slut!” Kangin was losing it all, he felt his heart race – he had asked the man he loved the question that he wasn’t sure of if he wanted to know the answer to.
“Kangin! Watch your words, please! She’s my girlfriend, I met her while I was on the subway.” Leeteuk snatched back his wallet from his friend’s hands and put it close to his eyes to examine if any part of the picture was spoilt from Kangin’s grip.
“Girl…girl…g..girlfriend?” Kangin felt his heart race faster and his mouth dry up. He felt a numb sensation throughout his whole body.
“Yes, girlfriend. My girlfriend. Isn’t she pretty? Yah, I think I found the love of my life; maybe I’ll marry her one day, so that we can have beautiful babies as well!” Leeteuk said animatedly, totally oblivious to the fact that Kangin was about to die from the harsh hit of reality in his face.
“Hyung,” he managed, “Kangteuk…is it real?” Kangin felt that he had to find out the answer to this important question right at that moment, but also, there was a slight hint of hesitation from his heart and ears.
“Kangteuk? Come on! That’s just for fun; we’re not really dating, are we!”
Those words. Those words were like a million, thousand arrows dipped in deadly poison being shot at him, and puncturing his heart. Those words. Those words, Kangin felt, were the most venomous words in the world – they kill. Those words. Those words had confirmed the ugly and harsh fact that Kangin only realized he didn’t want to hear it, at all.
He tried to swallow, but all the muscles in his throat felt as though they had locked together. He couldn’t breathe and numbness was spreading throughout his body; he felt as though his whole entire world was coming to an end. He felt his cheeks grow hot, and his eyes were wet. Then, he felt something cold and wet rolling down his cheeks. Kangin was crying.
“Then,” Kangin tried one last time; maybe he had heard Leeteuk wrongly, maybe, his hyung meant to say something else, “do you have me in your heart, at all?"
“Omo, K..Kangin ah, why are you crying?” Leeteuk finally realized for the first time that his friend was crying, and that something wasn’t right. He held Kangin’s arms firmly and shook him a little.
“Kangin! Strength! Real men shed blood, not tears!”
“Forget it!” Kangin freed himself from Leeteuk’s grip. His grip that once used to be so warm and lovely, now cold and hurtful.
“Forget it! Forget Kangteuk! I thought you would understand, but I was wrong! Real men shed blood and not tears? I think you are wrong! People who do not have feelings shed blood and not tears, because they cannot feel the pain when they’re bleeding, and they will never ever cry over someone they love, because they cannot love at all!”
Kangin didn’t even wait for Leeteuk to reply; he just took off in the opposite direction and kept on running, never once looking back.
“I may have lost the one I love, but at least I have the truth. That Kangteuk was never real.”
