When Leeteuk reached home, he found Heechul, Eunhyuk and Ryeowook sleeping in awkward positions on the sofa and floor. He guessed that they had attempted to stay up to wait for him but fell asleep instead. The young man laughed at his friends while he got blankets to cover them up in case they caught a cold from sleeping out in the living room.

He returned to his own bedroom, and immediately threw himself onto his bed. There were sounds coming from springs under the mattress and the bed as it creaked a little under the sudden impact. But after all of that settled down, everything was silent.

Leeteuk wasn’t at all exhausted, but he didn’t want to wash up before bed; he didn’t want to move, even an inch. All he wanted to do right at that moment was to lie on his bed, and think. As he stared up at the ceiling, many thoughts ran through his head. He looked up at the moon. Tonight, it was a full moon which could be seen from his window. It’s light was reflected upon Leeteuk’s face and facial lines of hurt and longing could be seen ever so clearly. His gaze was shifted to a beautiful bright, shining star away from the moon, and as he focused on it a little harder, he realized what he was gazing at – the North Star.

His friends had told him that the North Star was always at the same position, and it was used by lost travelers to guide themselves. Now, Leeteuk was gazing up at its magnificent beauty, wondering if it could guide his lost heart into his significant other’s hands, wherever or whoever that may be.

His train of thoughts was broken and he snapped back into reality when his mobile phone beeped once again. Annoyed, and wondering who could still be up at this hour, he checked his phone.

“Hey, remember me? It’s Kangin!” Leeteuk felt his heart skip a beat. The annoyance he felt was immediately erased and replaced by a strange, tingling feeling. He read on.

“Sorry to disturb you if you’re sleeping right now. But I was wondering if you have made any plans for tomorrow? If not, what would you say about spending a day out, together with me?”

Leeteuk read the text message several times, making sure he read every single word – no – alphabet clearly. He wasn’t sure why he was behaving and feeling like this, but he liked it. A lot.

He thought about how and what should his reply be, and after much thought, he typed: That would be great! Where shall we go tomorrow?

As he hit the “send” button, he felt his heart race even faster. He didn’t know what was happening to him; he felt this rush coming on, like something he never felt before, something foreign, something…like true love.

Leeteuk’s eyes widened. He dropped his phone on the bed and sat up straight.

“No, this is just my imagination. It isn’t real. It can’t be!” He whispered to himself, “I..I’m not gay! I’m straight. As straight as any normal 25-year old man can be. I’m straight until the point where I can’t be any straighter!”

His heart was beating even faster now, it was as though it might burst out of his chest if he continued on. Cold sweat trickled down his back and he felt his cheeks turning hot. There was another beep from his mobile phone, and Leeteuk stared at it. After trying to coax himself down, he picked up his phone with a shaky hand and read the text message.

“Ok, great! Let’s meet at the ice-cream parlour first, then we’ll head down to that new water theme park!”
